abstract PURPOSE:The titled setting agent, having air permeability with a slight sticking of dust without giving the feeling of incompatibility and charging with static electricity, and containing a specific water-soluble hydrolyzate of keratin as a film-forming material, water and an alcohol as main components. CONSTITUTION:A mixture solution of water with an alcohol is mixed with 0.5- 10wt% a film-forming material to give a hair setting agent. A water-soluble hydrolyzate of keratin, having two or more mercapto groups in one molecule, and obtained by reducing keratin with a mercaptan, e.g. thioglycollic acid, or a sulfide, e.g. sodium sulfide, in an alkaline region (pH 8-11), and hydrolyzing the reduction product with an enzyme, is used as the film-forming material. Preferably, the average molecular weight of the hydrolyzate is adjusted to 2,000-20,000. The amount of the alcohol, e.g. ethyl alcohol, is preferably 5-15wt%.
