titleOfInvention Preparation of glycidyl methacrylate
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound useful as a raw material for baking coating powder, readily in a short time in high yield, while suppressing side reactions, by transesterification of methyl methacrylate with glycidol in the presence of a specific catalyst. n CONSTITUTION: Methyl methacrylate (M) is transesterified with glycidol (G) at a molar ratio of M to G ≥2:1 in the presence of one or two or more alkali metal compounds selected from (A) mercaptides, e.g. sodium dodecyl mercaptide, (B) xanthates, e.g. potassium xanthate, (C) dithiocarbamate, e.g. dimethyl-dithiocarbamate, (D) imide salts, e.g. potassium succinimide, (E) imine salts, e.g. pyrrole, and (F) phenoxides, e.g. phenol, as a catalyst to give glycidyl methacrylate. Preferably, one or more types of polymerization in hibitors, e.g. phenol, are added to the system. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1980,JPO&Japio
