PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound in high selectivity, useful as a raw material for oxalic acid, analytical reagents, solvents for perfumes, intermediates for organic compounds, etc., by the reaction of aliphatic alcohols, carbon monoxide, and O 2 , under pressure, in the presence of palladium nitrate and a quinone as catalysts. n CONSTITUTION: An aliphatic alcohol, preferably a 1W6C straight chain aliphatic alcohol, carbon monoxide and molecular oxygen are reacted under pressure, in the presence of palladium nitrate in an amount of 0.5W10mmol based on 100ml of a raw material alcohol, and a quinone in a molar amount of 0.5W40 times that of the palladium nitrate, e.g. benzoquinone, naphthoquinone, or anthraquinone, as catalysts, to obtain an oxalate. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1980,JPO&Japio |
