titleOfInvention Production of heat-reactive phenolic resin
abstract PURPOSE: While the condensation reaction of phenol and aldehyde is carried out under specific conditions, rapid distillation is conducted under reduced pressure, thus shortening the reaction time and producing title resin containing less amounts of unreacted aldehyde and phenols. n CONSTITUTION: The addition reaction of (A) a substituted phenol as p-tert-butylphenol to (B) an aldehyde is carried out in the presence of (C) a basic catalyst as potassium hydroxide. Then, the reaction system is made acidic and the condensation reaction is effected at a temperature 10W100°C higher than the softening point of the final phenol resin which is solid at room temperature under a reduced pressure of preferably less than 100mmHg to distill off rapidly unreacted substituted phenol and solvent. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1980,JPO&Japio
