abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound useful as drugs for circulatory diseases at a low coat in short steps, by reacting pentane-2,4-dione with the reaction product between 3,7-dimethylxanthine and 1-bromo-3-chloropropane. n CONSTITUTION: 3,7-Dimethylxanthine of formula II is reacted with 1-bromo-3- chloropropane in the presence of a base, preferably sodium hydroxide, to give 1-(3-chloro-propyl)-3,7-dimethylxanthine of formula I, which is then treated with an alkali halide if necessary, to form a compound of formula III'. The resulting compound is reacted with 1-(5-oxohexyl)-3,7-dimethylxanthine of formula I at a low cost and in short steps. n USE: Effective in treating sequelae due to the cerebral thrombosis. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1980,JPO&Japio
