titleOfInvention Production of arsenic acid from crude arsenic sulfide precipitate
abstract PURPOSE:To produce low cost arsenic acid easily and safely in a high yield by adding nitric acid of a specified concn. to crude arsenic sulfide precipitates to oxidize the arsenic sulfide. CONSTITUTION:A 15-62wt% nitric acid soln. is added to cheap crude arsenic sulfide procipitates in a HNO3 to As ratio of 1.12-6.4 by wt., whereby the precipitates are dissolved in the soln., and an exothermic reaction proceeds. In accordance with the concn. of notric acid, NO2 gas or NO gas is by-produced, and As of As2S3 in the precipitates is converted into arsenic acid soln. The reaction product mixt. is then filtered to seperate sulfur from the arsenic acid soln. The filtriate is treated with the raw material or the like to remove the residual HNO3, and by treating the filtered arsenic acid soln. by an ion exchange method, impurities such as Cu and Pb are removed to give purified arsenic acid soln.
