titleOfInvention Modification of polyethylene molded article by cross-linking
abstract PURPOSE: To prepare a crosslinked polyethylene article having excellent electrical, mechanical and thermal properties, by adding specific amounts of an amine and an alcohol to the polyethylene resin and irradiating with electron rays having maximum range smaller than the thickness of the molded article. n CONSTITUTION: A crosslinked article is manufactured by the electron irradiation of a molded article obtained fron a resin composition composed of (A) 100 parts by weight of polyethylene, (B) 0.2-2 parts of an amine having a pKb value of ≤ 9.5, e.g. propylamine, ethylenediamine, aniline, etc., and (C) 0.2-1 part of an alcohol having a melting point of about ≤ 50°C and a boiling point of about ≥ 130°C, e.g. n-amyl alcohol, ethylene glycol, etc. The process is especially effective for the crosslinking reaction of a molded article having a maximum thickness of about ≥ 4mm with electron rays having smaller maximum range than the maximum thickness of the article. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1980,JPO&Japio
