titleOfInvention | Polyester resin for packaging |
abstract | PURPOSE: To reduce the acetaldehyde content of a polyester resin and to improve its safety as a food-packaging material, by passing a specifically formed polyethylene terephthalate through a fluid or reduced pressure atmosphere. n CONSTITUTION: A polyester prepared by melt polymerization, consisting mainly of ethylene terephthalate unit, and having an intrinsic viscosity of ≥0.50, is melt- formed into fibers or films having a specific surface area of ≥50cm 2 /g (pref. ≥100cm 2 /g). The formed articles are passed through a fluid (e.g. air, nitrogen, steam, etc. as a gas and water as a liquid) or reduced pressure atmosphere to give an acetaldehyde content of ≤20ppm. The contact of the polymer with a fluid is preferably carried out at room temperature to 150°C for 1W15min. for a gas, or at room temperature to 100°C for 5W20min. for water. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1980,JPO&Japio |
