abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the title composition having a high drying rate, by incorporating an alkyd resin having hydroxyl groups in excess with an alkyd resin having the photopolymerization initiating function prepared through reaction of a carboxyl group-containing benzophenone derivative. n CONSTITUTION: (A) A five-membered ring compound having unsaturated double bonds of the formula (R is 1W3C organic residue; n is O or an integer 1W6) and/or its reaction product by the Diels-Alder method, is reacted with (B) a compound having a polymerizable double bond and a hydroxyl group in the same molecule to give (C) a hydroxyl group-containing resin and/or (D) a resin of hydrogenated (C). The resin (C) or (D) or both as part of the polyhydric alcohol are reacted with another polyhydric alcohol, a polycarboxylic acid, or its anhydride to form (E) an alkyd resin having hydroxyl groups in excess. The resin (E) is then reacted with a carboxyl group-containing benzophenone derivative and, if necessary an unsaturated carboxylic acid, to form (F) an alkyd resin having the photopolymerization initiating function.
