titleOfInvention Preparation of indole compound
abstract PURPOSE: To prepare the title compound useful as a raw material of 5-hydroxytryptophan, etc., economically, by reacting a β-propionaldehyde and a phenylhydrazine under specific pH and temperature conditions. n CONSTITUTION: 5-Alkoxy, 5-benzyloxy-3-(hydant-5'-ylmethyl)indole is prepared by reacting β-(hydant-5-yl)propionaldehyde with p-alkoxy, p-benzyloxyphenylhydrazine or its acid addition salt, in water or in a mixture of water and a low- boiling organic solvent at 50W90°C, pref. 70W75°C, keeping the pH of the reaction system between 1.5 and 3.0. The pH value of the reaction mixture is pref. buffered with an acid- salt buffer solution. The title compound can be obtained in high yield, and can be used without purification. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1980,JPO&Japio
