PURPOSE: To improve the yield of the title compound from ethylene glycol and isobutylene with a strongly acidic cation exchange resin catalyst, by inceasing the linear velocity of the raw materials in the catalyst bed to suppress the by-product formation sharply. n CONSTITUTION: Ethylene glycol is reacted with isobutylene, e.g. a C 4 - cut obtained by thermal cracking of naphtha or fluidized catalytic cracking of kerosene or gas oil in the presence of a strongly acidic cation exchange resin at a linear velocity of catalyst bed passage of the raw material calculated as the liquid state ≥120cm/hr, preferably 130W2,000cm/hr, more preferably 150W1,000cm/hr to give the objective compound in a high yield. n USE: Coating compounds, inks, solvents, dispersing agents, diluents, etc. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1980,JPO&Japio |
