titleOfInvention | Preparation of spiro (5-isopropylbicyclo(3.1.0)hexane-2,2'- oxirane |
abstract | PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound useful as a perfume or intermediate for the synthesis of sabinene hydrate readily in high yield, by oxidizing sabinene with oxygen under photosensitive conditions. n CONSTITUTION: Sabinene (S) of formula 3 is oxidized in the absence or presence of a solvent under photosensitive conditions for several to several tens of hours. After the reaction, the solvent and the photosensitizer are distilled off to give the trans- and cis- forms of spiro [5-isopropylbicyclo[3.1.0]hexane-2,2'-oxirane] of formulas (1) and (2). An aprotic solvent, e.g. pentane or hexane, is preferably used as the solvent in an amount of 1W100 times that of (S). Tungsten halogen, mercury lampls, etc. may be used as the light source with internal or external inradiation. α-Diketones, e.g. benzil, may be preferably used in a molar amount of 0.5W10 times that of (S). n COPYRIGHT: (C)1980,JPO&Japio |
