NEW MATERIAL:A carboxyalkylthio group-substituted nitrogen-containing heterocyclic quaternary ammonium salt compound of formula I (R 1 is aliphatic group; X 1 - is acid residue; Z 1 is non-metallic atom group necesary for forming five- to six-membered heterocyclic nucleus; R 2 is 1W4C alkylene group; m is 1 or 2; n is 1 or 2, and 1 in the case of an inner salt). n EXAMPLE: 2-Carboxymethylthio-3-ethylbenzoxazolium-ethylsulfate. n USE: An intermediate for photographic cyanine and azacyanine dyes. n PROCESS: A thiol compound of formula II is reacted with a 2W5C halogen-substituted aliphatic carboxylic acid to give a thioether compound of formula III, which is then reacted with a quaternizing agent to afford the objective compound of formula I. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1980,JPO&Japio |
