titleOfInvention Production of 1-(5'-oxohexyl)-3,7-dimethylxanthine
abstract PURPOSE: The addition of water to novel 1-(5-hexynyl)-3,7-methylxanthine gives readily title compound useful as vasodilator with remarkable activity in high yield and purity. n CONSTITUTION: The hydration of novel 1-(5-hexynyl)-3,7-dimethylxanthine of formula I is effected in an appropriate solvent as aqueous acetic acid in the presence of a salt of mercuric, silver, cadmium or zinc, such as mercuric sulfate, silver phosphate, cadmium sulfate or zinc cdhloride, and a mineral acid as sulfuric acid with heating preferably above 50°C to form 1-(5-oxohexyl)-3,7-dimethylxanthine of formula II. The novel compound of formula I is obtained by reaction between a compound of formula III (X is halogen) and another compound of formula IV(Me is alkali metal) in a inert solvent preferably under reflux. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1980,JPO&Japio
