PURPOSE: To prepare L-serine in high yield, by culturing bacteria capable of converting glycine to L-serine in a culturing medium containing specific amounts of an iron-ion chelating agent and cobalt ions, etc. n CONSTITUTION: A chelating agent for iron ion (e.g. o-phenanthroline), and Co ion or Ni ion (e.g. cobalt sulfate or nickel sulfate), are added to a conventional culturing medium to the concentrations of 10 -5 W10 -2 mol. The temperature and the pH value of the medium are adjusted to 20W40°C and 5W9, respectively, and bacteria capable of producing L-serine from glycine (e.g. Brevibacterium helvolum (IAM 1484)) are inoculated in the medium. 0.1W5g/dl of glycine is added to the medium, and the culturing is carried out for 2W10days. After the culturing, the accumulated L-serine is separated from the medium by conventional process. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1980,JPO&Japio |
