titleOfInvention Production of ruthenium tetraoxide
abstract PURPOSE: To form and recover RuO 4 by a dry method in a short time and a good yield by reacting ruthenium oxide hydrate or ruthenium hydroxide with F 2 gas at room temp. and by cooling the reaction product gas with a cold trap. n CONSTITUTION: A reaction tube storing RuO 2 .xH 2 O or Ru(OH) 3 is evacuated, introduced into a reaction tube contg. F 2 gas of 300W500 mmHg held at room temp., and allowed to stand for 20 minW1 hr, forming RuO 4 . The reaction product gas contg. the RuO 4 and HF simultaneously formed is passed through a cold trap cooled to around -30°C to release the HF from the trap, and the RuO 4 is captured with the trap. The vapor press. of HF at -30°C is about 100 mmHg, and that of RuO 4 about 0.1 mmHg. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1980,JPO&Japio
