abstract | PURPOSE: 6α-hydroxyconfertifolin is mesylated, treated with a selenium compound, then with an oxidizing agent under an acidic condition to form readily and inexpensively title compound with antimold activity. n CONSTITUTION: 6α-Hydroxy-unsaturated lactone of formula 2 is mesylated with methanesulfonyl chloride in a solvent as pyridine at room temperature to give the compound of formula 3. The product is dissolved in ethanol and poured into a NaBH 4 -anhydrous ethanol-[(C 6 H 5 Se) 2 ] solution to effect reaction with the formation of an oil product hardly separable (a mixture of compounds of formula 1 and 5) and the compound of formula 4. Then, the compound of formula 4 is oxidized with hydrogen peroxide in tetrahydrofuran-acetic acid to give the compound of formula 1. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1980,JPO&Japio |
