abstract PURPOSE: The title substance useful as a remedy for diabetes mellitus, obtained by extracting a Chinese matrimony vine with water to give an extract, to which an alcohol is added to prepare its precipitate, which is separated. n CONSTITUTION: A chinese matrimony vine, a shrub of Solanaceae, especially its leaves are extracted with water. To the resulting extract ethanol is added to make a 40W80wt% ethanol concentration. Prepared precipitate is collected by centrifugation to give a protein substance having fatty acid lowering activity. This substance is not treated in the conventional extraction of the Chinese matrimony vine. The substance has fatty acid lowering activity, that is, it has an action like that of insulin, and is useful as the active ingredient of a remedy for diabetes mellitus. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1980,JPO&Japio
