titleOfInvention Recovery of acetone
abstract PURPOSE: To recover acetone from the distillation residue of crude acetone, and to facilitate the waste water treatment, by treating the aqueous distillation residue with an alkali, neutralizing to a specific pH, distilling the solution to recover acetone, and recycling the recovered acetone to the crude raw acetone. n CONSTITUTION: Crude acetone is distilled after alkali treatment or adding an alkali or an aqueous alkali solution, to recover acetone. The residual aqueous solution is mixed with an alkali, heated to 20W100°C, especially 40W70°C, neutralized to pH 4W9, especially pH 5W8, and then distilled to give the recovered acetone. n EFFECT: Since the aldehyde content in the recovered acetone is considerably small, aldehydes are not accumulated in the recycling system. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1980,JPO&Japio
