titleOfInvention Preparation of carboxylic acid ester
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound by the reaction of an aldehyde and an alcohol in the presence of oxygen, using a catalyst comprising a metal compound containing Pd and at least one element selected from Pb, Hg, Tl and Bi, or the above compound and an alkali(ne earth) metal compound. n CONSTITUTION: An aldehyde is made to react with an alcohol in the presence of O 2 , using a catalyst which comprises a metal compound containing Pd and at least one element selected from Pb, Hg, Tl and Bi (e.g. Pd 3 Pb 1 ), or the above compound and an alkali(ne earth) metal compound, to give the title compound. The above-mentioned catalyst can be prepared as follows: An aqueous solution, which contains a soluble Pd, Hg, Tl or Bi compound and, if necessary, an alkali(ne earth) metal compound, is impregnated into a carrier and dried. Then the carrier is immersed in an acidic aqueous solution of PdCl 2 etc. with heating and reduced. n EFFECT: The above catalyst has a long as well as high activity and high selectivity. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1980,JPO&Japio
