abstract PURPOSE: To improve the incubation efficiency of microorganisms, by communicating a plurality of partial horizontal plane-forming structures with circulating water downcomers and gas-liquid risers having gas dispersion nozzles in an incubating vessel. n CONSTITUTION: The incubation tank 1 comprises the gas vent hole 2, partial horizontal plane-forming structures 4, gas supply line 12, feed inlet 15, outlet 17, etc. The tank 1 is divided into the chambers 5aW5e by the structures 4, and communicated with the downcomers 13 and gas-liquid risers 7 having the gas dispersion nozzles 8 therein. The circulating water downcomer 14 is provided at the center. The culture fluid is lifted by gas bubbles via the risers 7 to a chamber just above, partly lowered to lower chambers via the downcomers 13, and lifted from the tank bottom. The circulation of the fluid from the bottom through the downcomer 14 in the tank 1 provides the thorough agitation and gas-liquid contact. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1980,JPO&Japio
