titleOfInvention | Thermally ignitable 2-cycle internal combustion engine |
abstract | PURPOSE: To reduce in both weight and size a 2-cycle internal combustion engine and achieve a high output performance and low fuel consumption, by providing as an ignition source a hot plug made of platinum and heating a fuel-air mixture in a scavenging conduit. n CONSTITUTION: There is provided, as an ignition source 1 of a cylinder 1, a hot plug 2 which has a coil-shaped heating element 10 made of a platinum-rhodium alloy and capable of initially igniting a fuel-air mixture by passing electricity through the element 10 and then exhibiting a catalytic oxidation action by the combustion temperature and being heated to redness. A scavenging conduit 12 is bypassed from an upper portion of a crank case 11 and in the periphery of an exhaust hole 4. Then, the scavenging conduit 12 extends along a path in the direction opposite to the exhaust hole 4 and reaches a scavenging hole 13, thereby completely gasifying the fuel-air mixture by the heat of the wall of the exhaust hole 4 and then supplying it to the cylinder 1. Owing to this arrangement, the hot plug 2 is maintained at a high temperature, thereby allowing the engine to maintain a high output and achieving a considerable reduction in both weight and size. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1980,JPO&Japio |
