titleOfInvention Preparation of solid titanium trichloride
abstract PURPOSE: To prepare purple, fine powdery titanium trichloride useful as a highly active polymerization catalyst for α-olefins, etc., economically, in an industrial scale, by adding a liberating agent to the homogeneous liquid obtained by treating solid titanium trichloride with an ether, in the presence of an aromatic hydrocarbon, etc. n CONSTITUTION: (A) Solid titanium trichloride is treated with (B) an ether R 1 OR 2 (R 1 and R 2 are 1W5C alkyl or aralkyl) to give homogeneous liquid. The liquid product is reacted with (C) a liberating agent comprising a Lewis acid having higher acidity than (A) (e.g. titanium tetrachloride) at 40W150°C in the presence of (D) an aromatic hydrocarbon, a halogen-substituted aromatic hydrocarbon, an alicyclic hydrocarbon, etc. to give purple, fine powdery (≤10μ) titanium trichloride. A polyolefin is efficiently prepared by polymerizing an α-olefin (e.g. propylene) in the presence of the compound as a catalyst. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1980,JPO&Japio
