abstract | PURPOSE: To obtain an unsaturated resin having excellent surface hardening properties and adhesive properties of cured film to a substrate, by a method wherein a reaction product of rosin and an α,β-ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acid is reacted with a polyhydric alcohol and glycidyl (meth)acrylate. n CONSTITUTION: A reaction product of rosin and an α,β-ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acid and/or anhydride thereof is reacted with a polyhydric alcohol and glycidyl acrylate and/or glycidyl methacrylate in an inert solvent with heating in the presence of a thermal polymn. inhibitor and an esterification catalyst. When the reaction temp. exceeds 150°C, there is a tendency to form gel. At a low temp. below 50°C, the reaction rate is slow. It is preferred to carry out thereaction at a temp. of 50W150°C.
