titleOfInvention Z-10-alkenal
abstract NEW MATERIAL:An Z-10-alkenal of formula I (R is lower alkyl group). n EXAMPLE: Z-10-Pentadecenal. n USE: An intermediate for the synthesis of sex pheromone of Conopia hector Butler. n PROCESS: A compound of formula II is reduced to give a compound, which is halogenated. The resulting compound is reacted with 2,3-dihydropyran to form a compound of formula III, which is reacted with a basic compound, e.g. sodium amide. The reaction product is reacted with a compound of the formula RX', preferably in the presence of a basic compound, to give a compound of formula IV, which is decomposed with an acid. The resulting product is reduced in the presence of a palladium-barium sulfate catalyst and a base, e.g. pyridine, in a solvent, at -30W 50°C to form the compound of formula V, which is oxidized with an oxidizing agent, e.g. a dichromatedil. sulfuric acid, to afford the compound of formula I. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1980,JPO&Japio
