titleOfInvention Method for knowing progressive state of reductive reaction by reducing agent in permanent wave
abstract PURPOSE: To know an optimum processing time easily, to prevent damage to hair and to enable even an unskilled person to perform a treatment by measuring an oxidation-reduction potential of a reducing agent that is cutting cystine bond in keratin of the hair and by detecting its change rate. n CONSTITUTION: The oxidation-reduction potential measuring elelctrode 2 in which a small-sized platinum electrode and a comparing electrode are incorporated is put in a hygroscopic material 6 such as raw cotton or polyurethane foam rubber, and is inserted into the through hole 1A of the processing rod 1 around which the hair 5 is wound. An output of the electrode 2 is provided to the millivoltmeter 3 and the pen recorder 4. After the permanent wave liquid (first agent that contains a reducing agent such as thioglycol) is applied to the hair 5, a time the change rate of the oxidation-reduction potential of the reducing agent approaches to zero is read from the recorder 4 and is made a time of the termination of reduction. In this way, a proper plasticization of the hair is performed. Also the output of the electrode can be fed to the differentiator to inform the termination time with a buzzer or a lamp when a differential coefficient output is zero. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1980,JPO&Japio
