abstract PURPOSE: To provide a clear, nontoxic, long-acting repellent composition which is wet to the skin and remains to the skin even after perspiration, by mixing an insect repellent with a specific half ester of a copolymer. n CONSTITUTION: A repellent composition composed of (A) a ≥2C alkyl half ester of a methyl vinyl ether-maleic anhydride copolymer, (B) an insect repellent such as N, N-diethyl-m-toluamide, and pref. (C) a pH-controlling agent. The composition is applied to the skin in the form of spray, aerosol, etc. The film of said half ester formed on the surface of the skin in clear, non-toxic, hardly soluble in water, resistant to abrasion, wet to the skin, and washable easily with soap water, and gives pleasant feeling to the skin. The effect of the repellent lasts long even by the perspiration or abrasion with clothes. The weight ratio of the copolymer to the repellent is 20W200 to 100. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1980,JPO&Japio
