titleOfInvention | Preparation of carbazole |
abstract | PURPOSE: To prepare carbazole useful as a raw material of N-vinylcarbazole, with simple and short steps, by treating 2,2'-diamino-4,4'-di-tert-butylbiphenyl with phosphoric acid. n CONSTITUTION: Carbazole of formula III is prepared by reacting (A) 2,2'-diamino- 4,4'-di-tert-butyl biphenyl of formula II (1 part by weight) prepared by the nitration and the reduction of 4,4'-di-tert-butylbiphenyl of formula I with (B) phosphoric acid (pref. 5W10 parts by volume of a 85wt% aqueous solution), at the boiling point of the reaction mixture for 5W15 hours to effect the simultaneous cyclization and dealkylation reaction. A polyphosphoric acid, fluorosulfuric acid, etc. may be used in place of the phosphoric acid. The by-produced isobutylene IV can be used as a tert-butylating agent, raw material for the production of tert-butyl alcohol, etc. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1980,JPO&Japio |
