titleOfInvention Production of molded fiber-reinforced resin article
abstract PURPOSE:To produce a molded article of complicated shape at good productivity by a method wherein long fibers of specified length having high strength and high elastic modulus are placed, either as they are or as a resin-impreghated prepreg, in an injection mold and a resin is injection-molded. CONSTITUTION:Long fibers (e.g., carbon fibers, aromatic polyamide fibers, boron fibers, glass fibers, etc.) having an average fiber length of more than 5mm and having high strength and high elastic modulus are used as they are or after turned into a resin-impregnated prepreg. The fibers or prepreg is cut up into a predetermined shape and placed in an injection mold, and then a fluidized synthetic resin is charged or injected into the mold to provide a molded article. As the fluidized synthetic resin, one which contains, as required, shorter fibers having an average fiber length of less 5mm and having high strength and high elastic modulus is used. As the synthetic resin for the prepreg, a thermoplastic resin having a stable semiherdened form, such as epoxy resin, is preferably used. The long fibers having high strength and high elastic modulus are used in the form, for example, of a woven fabric, mix-vowen fabric, or the like.
