abstract PURPOSE: To facilitate application to food preservation through reduced quantity of remaining hydrogen without affecting oxygen absorption property by further addition of Pd cpd. to a composition consisting of iron and material contg. water of crystallization. n CONSTITUTION: A mixture is made from each specific amounts of powders from iron powder, a compound contg. water of crystallization, such as sodium sulfate decahydrate, metal halide such as sodium chloride, and/or filler such as diatomite The composition is put into bags made of e.g., nonwoven cloth of polyester under nitrogen atmosphere. Furthermore, to reduce the quantity of hydrogen generated from the composition, Pd cpd. catalyst such as palladium-carbon is added in an amount of 0.001pts.wt. or more based on metal Pd per 100pts.wt. of iron in the composition, and the bags are sealed. This composition is used to remove oxygen or reduce the content of oxygen in preserving food, medicine, chemicals, and precise instruments, and is further effective as heat generating and maintaining material. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1980,JPO&Japio
