titleOfInvention Purification of p-vanillin
abstract PURPOSE:To purify p-vanillin in high yields useful as a fixative, modifier, and blender of a spice, by adding a specific ratio of water to crude p-vanillin having a small amount of a methylvanillin, followed by extraction at a specified temperature. CONSTITUTION:14-30pts.wt. of water is added to one part by wt. of crude p- vanillin having not more than 1.3wt% of a methyl vanillin and p-vanilin is extracted with the water layerat 40-60 deg.C. EFFECT:A trace amount of a methylvanillin, which can not be removed by an ordinary distillation, is eliminated to give a high-purity p-vanillin.
