titleOfInvention Preparation of ketone
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain a ketone in high yield at improved reaction rate, by reacting a carboxylic acid or amide with a Grignard compound in the presence of a phosphoric acid triamide, and by hydrolyzing the resulting product. n CONSTITUTION: One mole of a carboxylic acid or amide, e.g. N,N-dimethylcapric amide, of the formula RCOR 1 [R is methyl, propyl, or hexyl group; R 1 is OH, NR 2 R 3 (R 2 and R 3 are H or hydrocarbon groups)] is reacted with a Grignard compound in the presence of phosphoric triamide, e.g. hexamethylphosphoric triamide, in an amount of 0.75W1.0mol, and hydrolyzed to give a ketone, e.g. 2- nonanone. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1980,JPO&Japio
