titleOfInvention Production of glycidyl methacrylate
abstract PURPOSE: In the ester interchange reaction between methyl methacrylate (MMA) and glycide, the catalyst is beforehand prepared by using a part of MMA in the reaction system and then immediately the ester interchange reaction is effected to produce title compound in reduced steps. n CONSTITUTION: The ester interchange reaction catalyst of alkali metal methacrylate is obtained by the reaction of MMA and an alkali metal hydroxide as potassium or sodium hydroxide at 50W80°C. Without isolation of the preduct, glycide is added and the ester interchange reaction is effected to produce the glycidiyl methacrylate. The amount of MMA used is 2W15, preferably 4W10, times molar quantity of glycide. The alkali metal hydroxide is 0.01W0.1, preferably 0.01W0.05 mol per mol of glycide. In the reaction, the use of polymerization inhibitor as hydroquinone is preferred. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1980,JPO&Japio
