abstract PURPOSE: A microorganism belonging to Pseudomonas is made to act on 5-substituted hydantoin to produce the corresponding D-α-amino acid. n CONSTITUTION: A microorganism that belongs to Pseudomonas, Arthrobacter, Alcaligenes, Achromobacter, Moraxella, Paracoccus or Flavobacterium and can convert 5-substituted hydantoin of foumula I (R is cyclohexenyl, m-substituted phenyl) to D-α-amino acid of formula II (R is as hereinbefore defined), e.g., Pseudomonas hydantoinophilum AJ-11220 (FERM-4347), is cultured in a culture medium containing compounds of formula I or the cells of the above microorganism or a product obtained by processing the cells are brought into contact with the compound of formula I in an aqueous medium. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1980,JPO&Japio
