abstract PURPOSE: To directly measure the distribution of a sludge layer by arranging in the depth direction a plurality of ultrasonic wave transmitters and receivers combined at a specific interval at the front and rear parts in the shifting direction of a sludge suction port, and detecting the output levels of receivers between respective ultrasonic transmitters and receivers. n CONSTITUTION: In a case where a sludge layer 2 piled up on the water bottom 1 is dredged at a sludge suction port 4, the approximate depth of the water bottom 1 and that of the sludge layer 2 are measured by a sounding front transmitter-receiver 7 provided at the front part of the shifting direction of the suction port 4. Then, a front ultrasonic wave transmitter-receiver column 5, the sludge suction port 4 and a rear ultrasonic wave transmitter-receiver column 6 are respectively located. Transmitters 5 1a , 5 2a ... and 6 1a , 6 2a ... and receivers 5 1b , 5 2b ... and 6 1b , 6 2b ... of the transmitter-receiver columns 5 and 6 are of the same construction and provided in a spaced relationship, and the distribution of sludge is detected as electrical signals by respective parts. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1980,JPO&Japio
