titleOfInvention Preparation of nitrosocyclohexane dimer and cyclohexanone
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain nitrosocyclohexane dimer, which is an important starting material of polycaprolactam, and cyclohexanone simultaneously, by the thermal decomposition of 1-dicyclohexyl nitrite. n CONSTITUTION: The thermal decomposition of 1-dicyclohexyl nitrite gives nitrosocyclohexane dimer and cyclohexanone. 1-Dicyclohexyl nitrite is obtained for example, as follows: benzene is hydrogenated and dimerized to give cyclohexylbenzene, which is then oxidized to afford 1-hydroxycyclohexylbenzene: The hydrogenation of 1-hydroxycyclohexylbenzene thus obtained gives 1-dicyclohexanol, which is made to react with nitrosyl chloride or dinitrogen trioxide to give the objective 1- dicyclohexyl nitrite. Addition of an inert gas, e.g. nitrogen monoxide, argon etc., or an inert organic solvent as a diluent to the thermal decomposition system improves the selectivity of the objective compound. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1980,JPO&Japio
