titleOfInvention | Production of film of organic macromolecule |
abstract | PURPOSE: To obtain an extremely thin film of macromolecules having a smooth outer surface, by floating a solution of organic macromolecules on the surface of water, spreading the solution by utilizing the surface tension of the water, and then evaporation the solvent. n CONSTITUTION: Organic macromolecules are dissolved in a volatile solvent to obtain a water-insoluble solution 4 of macromolecules lighter than water. This solution 4 is placed in that region of water surface 3 in a vessel 1 which is defined by movable members 2a, 2b. The members 2a, 2b are then moved away from each other in the directions of arrows A, B to increase the area of the region on which the solution 4 is floated. The solution 4 is spread by the surface tension of the water to be turned to a thin film. The solution 4 in the form of a thin film is stationarily left as it is in the air so as to evaporate the volatile solvent. As a result, a thin film of organic macromolecules is formed on the water surface in the vessel 1. The thin film is free from wrinkles or it has a smooth surface. It is not more than 2μ in thickness, and it has an excellent permeability with respect to a special gas. The thin film is used as a gas separator film. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1980,JPO&Japio |
