abstract PURPOSE: To provide an antidote effective to adsorb toxins and anomalous metabolites in digestive tracts, and having no side effects such as constipation, comprising spherical activated charcoal having specific particle diameter, surface area, pore radius, and pore volume. n CONSTITUTION: Spherical activated charcoal having a diameter of 0.05-2 mm, pref. 0.2-1.0 mm, a specific surface area of 500-2000 m 2 /g, pref. 700-1500 m 2 /g, volume of pores having pore radius of 100-75000Å of 0.05-1.0 cc/g, pref. 0.1-0.8 cc/g, is used as an antidote. It is administered usually in deses of 0.5-10 g, 3 times daily. Spherical activated charcoal having high toughness, precise spherical form, and smooth surface, is obtained by (1) forming molten pitches to minute spheres, (2) making the sphere infusible by oxidation, (3) carbonizing the sphere by heating at 800-1000°C in an inert atmosphere, and (4) activating by heating at 900-1000°C in steam. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1979,JPO&Japio
