PURPOSE:A polyethylene resin containing a phosphorus-containing antioxidant is melt extruded, irradiated with ionizing, radiation and heat stretched to produce crosslinked polyethylene film with improved transparency. CONSTITUTION:A composition comprising 100 parts by wt of a polyethylene resin and 0.1-3, preferably 0.05-1 parts of a phosphorus-containing antioxidant are melt extruded into a sheet or tube. The resulting product is irradiated with ionizing, radiation so that the gel fraction becomes 3-80 % and then monoaxially stretched at an area draw ratio of more than 4. The phosphorus-containing antioxidant is, e.g., triphenyl phosphite, tribenzyl phosphite. When the antioxidant is less than 0.01 part, the synergistic effect combined with irradiation crosslinking does not occur, exceeding 3 parts does not increase the effect and undesirably promotes the discoloration. |
