titleOfInvention | Production of oxalic diester |
abstract | PURPOSE: Title compound used for analytical reagents and solvents is continuously produced by novel industrial process consisting of the first step, the reaction between an alcohol, a nitrite ester, carbon monoxide and oxygen in the presence of a catalyst, the second step, dehydration and the third step, the separation of the product. n CONSTITUTION: The catalytic reaction under pressure is conducted by supplying a mixture of an alcohol containing a metal catalyst in platinum group and a nitrite ester from pipe 12 and a gas containing carbon monoxide and oxygen from pipe 13 to reactor 1. The reaction product is introduced through pipe 16 into dehy- dration column 2 where warter formed is distilled off as an azeotropic mixture with the nitrite ester. Then it is separated in separator 3 and the nitrite ester is recycled to dehydrator 2 and the water is taken out of pipe 20. In the present process effective dehydration is conducted and the formation of by-products is inhibited. When the waste gas contains a small amount of the alcohol and nitrite ester, it may be cooled to condense them, which are reused. Then a part of the dehydrated product is circulated through pipe 27 and the oxalic ester is obtained from pipe 26. n USE: Starting material for oxalic acid, oxamide, orotic acid, glycolic acid, ehtylene glycol and others. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1979,JPO&Japio |
