abstract | PURPOSE: The reaction of a specific prostanic acid derivative with a carboxylic acid is conducted in the presence of a phosphine compound and an azodicarboxylic dialkyl ester to produce with practical easiness title intermediate useful as a medicine. n CONSTITUTION: The reaction between a compound of formula I [X is ethylene, cis-vinylene; Y is ethylene, trans-vinylene; Z is trans-vinylene; R 1 is H, 1-12C alkyl; R 4 is single bond, 1-4C alkylene; R 5 is H, 1-8C alkyl; R 10 , R 11 are hydroxyl- protecting group where the case is excluded when Z is cis-vinylene and Z is trans- one] and a carboxylic acid of formula II (R 12 is 2-5C alkanoyl) is conducted in the presence of a phosphine compound of formula III (R 13 is 1-4C alkyl) and an azodicarboxylic dialkyl ester of formula IV (R 14 is 1-4C alkyl) to invert 15β-OH into 15α-OR 12 .
