titleOfInvention Preparation of 2-alkyl-4h-pyran-4-one
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound usable as an intermediate for synthesis of hipnotics, antibacterials, flavoring agents, etc., by treating a novel 5-alkyl-1,5,5- trialkoxy-1-pentene-3-yne with an acid in the presence of water. n CONSTITUTION: An 1-alkoxy-1-butene-3-yne of formula III: (R 3 is lower alkyl group) is reacted with an orthocarbonate of formula IV: (R 1 and R 2 are the same or different lower alkyl groups) in the presence of a Friedel-crafts type metallic halide catalyst, e.g. Zinc chloride, aluminum chloride, etc. at 40W200°C, preferably 80W90°C in an atmosphere of nitrogen to give an 5-alkyl-1,5,5-trialkoxy-1-pentene- 3-yne of formula II, which is then treated with a catalytic amount of an acid, e.g. hydro chloric, methanesulfonic acids, etc. in an equivalent amount or more of water or hydrous organic solvent to form the compound of formula I. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1979,JPO&Japio
