titleOfInvention Chloroprene liquid polymer and its production
abstract PURPOSE: The solution polymerization of chloroprene monomer and glycidyl acrylate monomer is conducted using a mercaptocarboxylic acid as a chain transfer agent to produce liquid polymers useful as resin modifier because they have carboxyl and epoxy groups in the molecule. n CONSTITUTION: Chloroprene monomer only or along with copolymerizable monomers such as 2,3-dichlorobutadiene-1,3 is copolymerized with a glycidyl acrylate of the formula (R is H, 1-2C alkyl) using a mercaptocarboxylic acid such as thioglycolic acid as a chain transfer agent in the presence of a polymerization initiator in an organic solvent boiling at a temperature lower than 150°C under normal pressure at 0-100, preferably 40-60°C until the conversion rate attains 60-80% to produce said chloroprene liquid polymer bearing at least one carboxyl group and 0.5-2.5 epoxy groups in one molecule and having an average molecular weight of 500-3000. The amount of the chain transfer agent is 3.5-25 parts per 100 parts of the monomer and the organic solvent is 20-200 parts and aromatic hydrocarbons, aliphatic halogenated hydrocarbons and cyclic ethers are used as a solvent. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1979,JPO&Japio
