titleOfInvention Oxidation of sterols or their derivatives
abstract PURPOSE: To accumulate an androstane derivative having de-hydrogenated A-ring by the microbial oxidation of sterols in a medium containing lanolin fatty acid. n CONSTITUTION: To prepare an androstane derivative having de-hydrogenated A- ring, such as androsta-1,4-diene-3,17-dione, by culturing microorganisms such as Arthrobacter simplex (IAM-1660) in a medium containing (A) sterols, their 4- en-3-one derivatives, or 1,4-dien-3-one derivatives as substrate, (B) 1W10%, pref. 2W6% of lanolin fatty acid, and pref. (C) an oxidation inhibitor, e.g. a chelating agent such as 2,2'-bipyridyl, etc.. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1979,JPO&Japio
