abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the title catalyst giving polymers with wide MW distribution, uniform grain size distribution and high bulk density by combining a solid catalyst, a reaction product of Ti or V halide and an org. Al cpd. and a halogenated hydrocarbon. n CONSTITUTION: A solid catalyst, a reaction product of Ti or V halide such as TiCl 4 and the following complex is allowed to react with an org. Al cpd. of formula AlR 3 3- lHl (where R 3 is a 1W20 C hydrocarbon radical and 0≤ll1) and a 1W15 C halogenated hydrocarbon such as methylene chloride. The complex is represented by formula Mg m M n R 1 p R 2 q H r X s [ where M is Be or Al, each of R 1 and R 2 is a 1W10 C hydrocarbon radical, X is an anionic radical contg.
