titleOfInvention | Preparation of dialkyl malonates |
abstract | PURPOSE:To prepare symmetiric dialkyl malonates in high yields industrially in one stage, by reacting bromochloromethane with CO, and alcohols in the presence of a cobalt carbonyl and a basic substance. CONSTITUTION:One mole of bromochloromethane (B) of formula I is reacted with 3-6 moles of CO (C) and 3-10 moles of lower alcohols (A), e.g. methanol, ethanol, etc. in the presence of 1/5-1/100 mole, preferably 1/10-1/20 mole, of a cobalt carbonyl of formula II and a basic substance, e.g. a carbonate, bicarbonate, acetate, etc. of an alkali or alkaline earth metal, in an enclosed system at 10-100 deg.C and 20-60 atm under pressure to give dialkyl malonates of formula III: (R is alkyl group). The molar ratios of (B):(C):(A) are preferably 1:4: 5-10. |
