titleOfInvention Purification of ketones
abstract PURPOSE: To reduce the aldehyde content of a crude ketone containing small amount of aldehydes and acidic substances, by contacting the crude Retone with an alkali, and heating in the presence of an anion exchange resin followed by distilling, thereby keeping the activity of the anion exchange resin for a long time. n CONSTITUTION: Purified ketone is obtained by contacting a crude ketone containing small amounts of aldehydes and trace of acidic substances, which is obtained by the acid dedomposition of an aralkyl hydroperoxide, with an alkali, heating the ketone in the presence of an anion-exchange resin having sites of hydroxyl group type quaternary ammonium salts, and subsequently distilling the treated ketone. Since acidic substances form salts with the alkali, and no longer undergo ion-exchange with the anion-exchange resin, the activity of the anion-exchange resin is kept for a long time. The alkali is used in an amount of at least equivalent weight to the acidic substances. When the concentration of the acidic substances in the crude ketone is not definite, excess alkali is used in order to separate the mixture into two layers and crude ketone of the upper layer is brought into contact with the anion-exchange resin. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1979,JPO&Japio
