titleOfInvention Anti-tumor substance and its preparation
abstract PURPOSE: To prepare a water-soluble, non-cytotoxic, saccharide-containing proteinic anti-tumor substance A having broad anti-cancer spectrum, and strong anti-tumor activity, by removing liver from shellfish, esp. scallop, extraction the flesh or adductor of the shellfish, with water and separating and purifying the objective compound from the extract. n CONSTITUTION: Liver is removed from shell fish, and the flesh or adductor thus obtained is homogenized in water, a salt solution, or a buffer solution. The homogenized mixture is filtrated, or centrifuged to obtain extract. Anti-tumor substances A 1 , A 2 , A 3 , and A 4 are separated from the extract purified by a proper combination of salting-out, treatment with organic solvents, ultra-filtration, gel-filtration, chromatography, electrophoresis, etc. These substances are water-soluble, saccharide- containing proteins whose characteristics are as follows: white or slightly yellowish white solid, insoluble in organic solvents: amphoteric electrolyte: main absorption peaks of IR spectrum, 1658cm -1 , 1550cm -1 , average molecular weight, about 20,000. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1979,JPO&Japio
