abstract PURPOSE: A thermoplastic and foaming resin sheet is laminated with a different material on the top surface and foamed in a tightly closed mold under specific conditions, thus producing highly foamed boards with smooth surfaces. n CONSTITUTION: A melt extruded sheet of foaming and thermoplastic resin, preferably styrene foaming resin, is laminated with another different material as highimpact polystyrene on the top surface to form a composite foaming sheet or plate. After the composite sheet is softened by heating, it is introduced into a mold that has the cavity thicker than the thickness of the board, preferably more than 1.5 times the thickness of the board, and can be tightly closed at the periphery using a clamp. Then, the inside of the mold is kept vacuum and the composite sheet is foamed along the cavity of the mold, thus producing he objective board foamed 20W40 times the original volume. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1979,JPO&Japio
