abstract | PURPOSE: The direct reaction between aminophenol and an organic halide is effected in the presence of a specific quaternary salt and an alkali metal hydroxide to produce in high yield title compound, which is used as an intermediate for medicines, dyes, etc. n CONSTITUTION: The reaction between aminophenol of formula I and an organic halide of formula: R-X (R is alkyl, alkenyl, benzyl; X is halogen) as isopropyl chloride is conducted in the presence of a quarternary salt and an alkali metal hydroxide in an organi solvent to produce aminophenyl ether of formula II as m-aminophnyl isopropyl ether.
